History of the Band

In 1989, a group of Cupertino High School Band Alumni came together to play a surprise concert honoring long-time CHS music director, Mr. Robert Gomez. Former school band members from 12 different states and spanning the 22 years of Mr. Gomez' tenure at CHS participated in the event. Akin to the emotional ending in the movie Mr. Holland's Opus, several of the Alumni got the music `bug' again and wanted to continue performing. With perseverance, and with Mr. Gomez agreeing to conduct, the Cupertino High School Alumni Band was formed.

Expansion brought not only new faces and music abilities to the group, but also a new name: The Cupertino Symphonic Band.
